It’s about two brothers ‘Everything’ and ‘Nothing’.
First One:
He was a child, had dreams so big
Went to school, studied like a pig
Got a scholarship, for a nice college
Liked what he did, gained some knowledge
Got a great job and started getting paid
Was pretty and smart and got a lot laid
Met a nice girl, asked her to marry
Family traditions said, he would carry
Bought a nice car, a nice house
Suits for him, expensive blouse for spouse
Bought all on his bucket list, also had a little kid
Thought he was complete, remaining was just a lid
But little did he knew how wrong he was
Without noticing the great many flaws
He still just bought and bought and bought,
And inside all of those ‘things’, he himself was caught
His Golden jaws and Golden claws and Golden paws
Then in the midst of collecting everything,
Everything just came to an eventual dead pause.
Second One:
He was a child, had dreams so big
Went to school, but just ate like a pig
Flunked at school, said no to college
Was a complete failure, but didn’t acknowledge
Said yes to charity, instead of getting paid
Just smoked a joint, whenever was afraid
Stayed away from everyone, but alone was merry
Had problems with society, all traditions were a query
Ran away from home, said jungle was his house
A lot of good books, all day he would browse
Was trying to find happiness, from when he was kid
Claimed he now found it, just everything needed to get rid
But little did he knew how wrong he was
And all because of his spiritual cause
He again just thought and thought and thought
But happiness isn’t so easy to sought
So, he Burnt and Buried and Left everything
All his awes and all his laws and all his applause
Everything just came to an eventual dead pause.
Did any of them achieve what they had in mind?
Or were they just caught in infinite cycles
Of adding and adding or leaving all behind…?
And the things that this song is very beautifully trying to ask:
